SOLVED: Cherish Chilbolton sign stolen

In a new twist in the story of James Painter’s 75-home planning application, Cherish Chilbolton discovered on Wednesday that a sign protesting the development had been stolen.

Within hours of posting this article, the mystery of the “stolen” sign has been solved. See what happened to it here.

The sign, their largest, had been placed on Stocks Green near St Mary the Less Church last Saturday. Double-sided and measuring 5ft by 3ft, the sign opposed the development planned for up to 75 homes on land near Drove road.

Chilbolton Parish Council own Stocks Green and had approved the placement of the sign.

Cherish Chilbolton first noticed that the sign had been taken on Wednesday. It had been removed some time between lunchtime and 5:15pm.

A Cherish Chilbolton spokesperson asked for witnesses and observed that “the sign had been carefully erected to avoid damage to the orchids on Stocks Green. The thief, or thieves, may not have been so careful.”

The group have referred the matter to Hampshire Police. If you know anything about it, or if you saw something, please contact them.

If, on the other hand you know where the sign is, please contact Cherish Chilbolton. They would like it to be returned: they want to put it to use, promoting their opposition to the proposed development.
