News: SWG publishes answers - 90 to 120 homes planned
In a follow-up to the village meeting on 5 December the Parish Council’s Strategy Working Group have published a response to questions asked by residents. In it they reveal that the “current estimate” of the expected size of the whole development “is between 90-120 homes, depending on the precise layout”.
The information published incudes a short document summarising the Community Housing Project’s vision and next steps.
Notably it identifies that an “amount of misinformation that has been circulating” and that the Parish Council “need[s] to improve the frequency and transparency of information and January will see the introduction of a dedicated section of the Parish Council website where all information can be viewed and shared”.
There are also documents providing answers to the questions asked at the meeting and a copy of all the slides displayed.
The Q&As cover all the points made at the meeting, but the main themes were:
- A desire to know more about the process that led to the choice of the site between Drove Road and Cart Lane
- The observation that infrastructure in the village is already fully stretched and what would be done to improve in in advance of building additional homes
- Routing of construction along the narrow, unpaved section of Drove Road which is technically a bridleway, would be dangerous
- The risk that the proposed development rather than fending off commercial developers, might actually attract and enable them
- The technical process of setting up a Community Land Trust, funding it and ensuring that its aims aren’t subverted by other parties
- The role of the Chilbolton Parish Council in respect of the CLT and its chosen developer in the future, and how CPC will represent the interests of residents
The documents also report that two more residents have come forward to join the Strategic Working Group and that options for structuring the CLT will be put to the February meeting of the Parish Council.
