The case of the “stolen” sign which we reported on this morning has quickly been resolved.

chilbolton.news was contacted by a Village resident who revealed that he had been responsible for its removal.

In a new twist in the story of James Painter’s 75-home planning application, Cherish Chilbolton discovered on Wednesday that a sign protesting the development had been stolen.

Local MP Caroline Nokes gave a stark warning to a packed Village Hall. Talking about the outline planning application for 75 homes, she said “This is a challenge. I cannot wave a magic wand and make this go away.”

James Painter, the landowner behind the planned 75-home development has declined Chilbolton Parish Council’s invitation to a Village meeting, and the opportunity to speak to the community.

His letter also includes a rebuttal of several points currently being raised in objections to his development.

So here we are, the anniversary of a Village Meeting that threw Chilbolton into a state of shock and turmoil. Its impact has rippled through an entire year, threatens to do so next year, and perhaps for years to come. It’s time to look back at an evening in December 2024.
