News: Alfred Homes to answer questions on TVF construction

Alfred Homes, who are building five new houses at Test Valley Farm, will be answering Chilbolton residents’ questions about their construction programme next week.

There will be a drop-in meeting at the Village Hall on Wednesday 2 Sep 2026 between 5pm and 6pm.

There will be drawings and site layouts on display, and a number of Alfred Homes employees will be there to answer any questions.

The new homes are already advertised on Alfred Homes’ website, where they are described as being in “a beautiful, secluded location in this popular village.”

Joe Chamberlain, Alfred Homes’ Site Manager for the development, has outlined the proposed construction programme.

2026 - Site Preparation and Infrastructure

  • April-May 2026: Initial site preparation, including asbestos removal and diversion/protection of existing services
  • June-July 2026: Demolition and enabling works, including removal of existing structures and preparation of the site
  • July-October 2026: Groundworks, drainage and infrastructure works, including foul and surface-water drainage, utility connections and preparation of the new site access
  • September-October 2026: Further electrical and utility connections, road and infrastructure works and preparation of the site for construction
  • November 2026: Construction of the first homes is scheduled to commence, beginning with foundations and structural works

2027 - House Construction and First Completions

  • January-March 2027: Construction of the first homes will continue, with structural works progressing through the first, second, third and fourth floors, followed by roof structures and roofing. Groundworks and infrastructure works will also continue across the wider site
  • March-April 2027: The first homes will move into their internal fit-out stages, including insulation, plumbing, electrical installations and plastering. At the same time, structural construction will continue on the following phase of homes
  • April-June 2027: Further homes will progress through brickwork, roofing and external construction. Internal works to earlier homes will include plastering, tiling, flooring, kitchen installation, electrical and plumbing works and carpentry
  • June-August 2027: The first homes will reach the final stages of construction, including decoration, flooring, carpets, final plumbing and electrical works, snagging and external works. The following homes will continue through their internal fit-out
  • August-September 2027: The first phase of homes is scheduled to reach completion and handover, with final snagging, landscaping and external works taking place. Construction and internal fit-out will continue on subsequent plots
  • September-October 2027: Construction will continue on later phases, with further homes progressing through their structural, roofing and internal fit-out stages

Mr Chamberlain said “The construction programme will be managed to minimise disruption to local residents wherever reasonably practicable.”
