News: Gravel Hill public meeting

Chilbolton Parish Council will hold a meeting on Saturday 27 Jun 2026 between 10:00am and 12:00pm at the Village Hall, to review all current development proposals in the Village and present their plans for a 20-home development at Gravel Hill.

The Parish Council aims to put proposals to residents in a referendum or vote during the summer.

The meeting will explain the development options that are currently under consideration within the Village. They are:

It will then explain what the Parish Council are proposing at Gravel Hill, and why.

At the last Parish Council meeting Cllr Neil Connor said that he hoped the public meeting would allay any confusion over the proposed Gravel Hill project and address concerns and opportunities associated with it.

In the build-up to this meeting CPC released a visualisation of the Gravel Hill site produced by English Rural.

The site is approximately 1.1 hectares with 19 homes occupying about 0.7 hectares. It is located at the corner of Martins Lane and Gravel Hill, but the entrance to the development would be 107 metres along Gravel Hill.

The plan includes a landscaped amenity open space and a biodiversity net gain landscaped space.

The junction between Martins Lane and Gravel Hill would be improved as part of the development.

Since the visualisation was released, Councillors have admitted that the visualisation is an early view of what the development might look like. It does not, for example, comply with the parking space standards specified in the Chilbolton Neighbourhood Development Plan.

On their community housing project page, the Parish Council says of Saturday’s public meeting:

We are committed to supporting the majority view in the village and will push hard to have the supported option included in TVBC’s Local Plan. Please do come along to the meeting and have your say. Even more importantly, ask your questions at the meeting and continue to provide feedback so that everyone has an informed view by the time we have a vote.

This could be one of the most important Village meetings this year. It is a precursor to a planned referendum or vote to be held over the summer. Councillors will outline at the meeting what the options are for that vote.
